The writer and producer said she thinks it’s good to “quit while you’re ahead.”

OVER THE WEEKEND, Sharon Horgan returned to Ireland from her London home to have a little chat with Second Captains on RTÉ Radio One about the final series of her TV show Catastrophe, starring herself and Rob Delaney.

The actress, writer and producer spoke about how devastated she is to be leaving the show behind, but said that she doesn’t want to outstay her welcome.

Sometimes I feel like it’s a good idea to quite while you’re ahead, I mean, we might not be ahead by the end of this season. It might go horribly wrong! The stories came to us really easily and we enjoyed writing it, I suppose we didn’t want to push that. We didn’t want to force stories.

Like with any show that ends during its prime, viewers are going to be fairly choked up at the end of Catastrophe. Sharon said that she couldn’t even speak to Rob Delaney while he was filming his last scene.

I was like, I’m gonna email you. Everything I’m feeling now, I’ve got no way I can express it.

The actress said that she has, indeed, broken down a few times while preparing the final series.

When we did our read-through, because you’re reading all six scripts and everyone’s there and most people have been involved with it from the very beginning – we got to the last scene of the sixth episode and really, really embarrassingly, I kind of lost my shit a little bit. I just couldn’t read it.

The show wrapped up about three weeks ago, but there’s still plenty of editing to be done. Sharon said that she reckons the show “is going to go out early next year”, but there’s no official date at the moment.

Please, take your time. We are not ready for this to end.
